  • A Crowdsourcing website: Is KickApps the right tool for the job?

I want to a website dedicated to crowd sourcing. It will be a design contest website similar to Threadless.com, DesignByHumans.com and 99designs.com

Is kick apps the right tool for the job and why?

  • Yes you can

You can certainly launch such a site using KickApps to power all of the rich media and social aspects of the site.

The question is how much control do you need over the customization of the actual contest features do you need?

    I can see two approaches:

    1. You can use KickApps and front it with an external system like Joomla, Drupal or WordPress to present the actual contests and whatnot that aren't provided by KickApps
    2. You can use our REST API and build as much custom stuff on your own systems as you want, and use KickApps as the social engine to power all the rich media and social features

The reason KickApps is compelling in this regard is that you can use KickApps to power all of your social graph features (profiles, community activity, etc) as well as rich media (video and image transcoding and pushing out to the edge).

Finally you can also completely brand your KickApps community to suit your exact needs, something that a lot of other competitors do not offer.
